Guest: Windows 2012 DataCenter trial version


My goal is simple: just to configure my virtualized Windows 2012 as domain controller and once done, act like a DC for other laptops at my home. I know it is not possible to use the same host for do that but I have got another machines we share the same router.

How can I do for achieving having in mind that my host has 192.168.0.154 as IP and 192.168.0.1 as Gateway. Then in my Guest, IP is running in other network segment, I suppose created by Virtual Box: Ip: 10 .0.2.15 and Gateway 10.0.2.2.

As far as I know these last IP's belong to INTRANET WORLD, so are totally useless for internet.

Besides this, I would need to put one static IP address in my guest, on the contrary will not work at all my DC.

I am stuck, how can I solve this?

The 10.0. IP addresses seem to me to show your guest networking style is set to NAT. Set it to Bridged. Then the guest will be on the same network as your other PCs, getting a 192.168.0.### address from your router. After you have made these changes and you can ping your guest from your host and from other PCs on the network in the192.168.0.### range, you are ready to set up your domain controller. (Ping is usually turned off in Windows by default but it is useful for network testing, so turn it on in the guest.)

I've changed as you said but it does not work at all.

So, now my guest has as Ip, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and Primary DNS Server, 192.168.0.164, 255.255.255.0, 192.168.0.1, 192.168.0.1 respectively.

My host has one IP very similar the first one 0.160 and the same Primary DNS Server.

This really has very little to do with Virtualbox, and a lot to do with Windows domains. scottgus1 has already solved all that was a VirtualBox issue.

Your current setup is fine for a file server, but not for a DC. A DC has special requirements because your domain members must use your local DNS to find domain resources (including the logon server). A domain will not function under these conditions. It is not a VirtualBox issue because exactly the same applies if you were using a physical machine and a physical network.
