[Solved] can not set resolution to fullscreen 1366*768
[Solved] can not set resolution to fullscreen 1366*768
version 5.10
host win7
guest winXP
when I set manually resolution to 1366*768 in VB menu, it is do nothing; screen still in low (not fullscreen) resolution:

hostingkartinok. com/show-image.php?id=9e610db1fd25d4f1572873ab1206245a
going to fullscreen mode (Right ctrl+F) also, have no changes - screen in low resolution.
I can change resolution to low flex (like on image) and to very low (800*600 for example), but not to fullscreen.
When I connect my laptop to big 4:3 monitor, then VB works fine - it set correct 1280*1024 resolution.
What I have to do to restore ability to change resolution to 1366*768 ?

Re: can not set resolution to fullscreen 1366*768
You should install the Guest Additions in the guest to get matching host screen resolutions.
Re: can not set resolution to fullscreen 1366*768
Of course Guest Additions in the guest windows XP already installed.
I write about problem with already installed Guest Additions.

If you want accurate responses then provide a VM log file when asking questions such as these: With the VM fully shut down, right click it in GUI. Select "Show Log" and save "VBox.log" (ONLY) to a zip file. Attach the zip here.
Re: can not set resolution to fullscreen 1366*768
file:
I started VM, then tried to change mode thru menu (line 1032 "00:00:07.683225 VMMDev: SetVideoModeHint: Got a video mode hint (1366x681x32)@(0x0),(1;0) at 0)")
Then I stopped VM.
But after this row 1032 i didnt see any error or another interesting information.

Re: can not set resolution to fullscreen 1366*768
Invalid extension pack installed on the host. You should fix that.VBox.log wrote: VirtualBox VM 5.0.10 r104061 win.amd64 (Nov 10 2015 16:56:18) release log
...
00:00:03.012327 Installed Extension Packs:
00:00:03.012367 Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack (Version: 4.3.18 r96516; VRDE Module: VBoxVRDP unusable because of 'Failed to load the main module ('C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox/ExtensionPacks/Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack/win.amd64/VBoxPuelMain.DLL'): VERR_SYMBOL_NOT_FOUND - GetLastError=127')
Why on earth (and how?) do you have the extension pack on an ISO? The extension pack is a plugin for the host VirtualBox software and hence is installed on the HOST. This is utterly useless to the guest. And besides, you don't even have it installed in the guest: naturally it is impossible to install an app plugin when the app doesn't exist, so all you've done is mount the ISO.VBox.log wrote: 00:00:03.190249 File system of 'C:\Users\lalala\Downloads\Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-5.0.10-104061.vbox-extpack (2).iso' (DVD) is ntfs
In the guest you should install the Guest Additions (the clue is in the name a bit there). Then you should be able to change resolutions. Do this by booting the guest and selecting "Device|Insert Guest Additions CD", then run the installer if it doesn't launch by itself.
So in fact Scottgus's answer was correct. You have of course not already installed the Guest Additions.
Re: can not set resolution to fullscreen 1366*768
ok, fixed.Invalid extension pack installed on the host. You should fix that.
As I already wrote, Guest Additions already installed. You have of course not already installed the Guest Additions
see screenshot in guest: http://hkar.ru/F0AR
So, after fixing with extension pack, problem still exists.
new log attached here:

Re: can not set resolution to fullscreen 1366*768
for understanding,
i had VB version 4, and for the first time (one month) all was ok, it worked in fullscreen mode correct.
But then (I dont know reason) i get this problem.
May be, the problem appeared after I connect my widescreen notebook (1366*768) to standard 4:3 (1280*1024) monitor.
Last week I upgrade VB to version 5 (thats why Extension Pack`s version doesnt correspond to VM version).
I hoped that problem already resolved in 5 version, but not.

Re: can not set resolution to fullscreen 1366*768
Well, here's my problem with what you say: I see nothing in your log which confirms that the GAs are installed and running. I concede that you may have at least started an installation.
For comparison, here is what a 5.0.10 log says for my own XP guest :-
More evidence: if the GAs are installed and running then should see an icon in your XP guest's notification area. If you hover the mouse over this icon then it should report the GAs version. If you pop up the guest Task List you should see the GAs processes in the list. In particular the main VBoxService.exe process, and the VBoxTray.exe taskbar applet.
