Windows 7 newly installed running TradeStation slow

Hi,

I'm wanting to know performance tuning settings used to make Windows 7 run fast. It's been through all the updates.

Running this particular application TradeStation which is a stock trader software is very slow.

My host is a Mac Pro with 2 CPUs 16 core total, gobs of RAM and disk space.

What should settings should I use?

Thank you, Caesar.

Attach the vbox.log for your guest.

With the VM fully shut down, right click it in the VB GUI. Select "Show Log" and save "VBox.log" to a zip file. Attach the zip here.

Personally I don't see anything obviously wrong in the logs. Just as a test you could try setting the guest to 2 CPUs and 4GBs RAM and see if it's faster or slower or the same. If the TradeStation software is the only app with performance issues there may not be much you can do. You could always check their forums.

Turning off Automatic Updates in Windows 7 usually helps the performance of Windows 7 guests.

FWIW, I had various Apple software installed in my Windows 7 guest which I haven't checked for awhile. My guest was extremely slow booting, shutting down and running. I uninstalled iTunes, Quicktime, iCloud, bonjour etc. and now my guest is very fast. If you have any Apple related software installed in your guest you may want to consider uninstalling it.

Well, the one thing I tried was to reduce the CPUs to just 1 (one), and increased the memory to 16GB.

That improved TradeStation performance.

But why is that? I wanted to dedicate more CPUs to TS to make it run faster as each TS window is assigned to a CPU round robin.

All applications behave the same.

Thanks, Caesar.

Though the ticket is on Windows host, there is a multi-core defect open for 14 months ... I'm going to dig out my Parallels.dmg again.

Apparently none of the paying customers use more than one core in their guests.

:D

To be fair though, I think the issue is having more than one CPU and not multiple cores. 8)
