Could not creat the imported medium

Post by Akillioon »

Hello

I'm trying to export my virtual machnine to another computer, my laptop.

I used "export appliance" and selected to save as ova, on an external hard drive.
When I tried to "import appliance" i got the following error:
Failed to import appliance E:\win7-virtual-machine-export.ova.

Could not create the imported medium 'C:\Users\Anton\VirtualBox VMs\Win7\win7-virtual-machine-export-disk1_1.vmdk'.

VMDK: cannot write allocated data block in 'C:\Users\Anton\VirtualBox VMs\Win7/win7-virtual-machine-export-disk1_1.vmdk' (VERR_DISK_FULL).

Result Code: VBOX_E_FILE_ERROR (0x80BB0004)
Component: ApplianceWrap
Interface: IAppliance {8398f026-4add-4474-5bc3-2f9f2140b23e}

My guess is that there is not enough room on my C-drive, which is true, but isn't possible to "import appliance" and have the virtual disk on the external hard drive?
First time I tried to, "import appliance" i accidently pulled of the connections to the external hard drive, maybe it's the problem too.

I'm greateful for all answears that help me towards fixing this, thank you :)!

Regarding the import/export problem, I suspect it is not possible to change the disk locations during the import. But you don't have to import/export if you are using Virtualbox on both hosts. See this tutorial "Moving a VM" viewtopic.php?f=35&t=55003 This tutorial is also useful when re-interpreted as "Backing Up a VM".
