Mageia 5 locked at 800x600

Post by Raven »

I installed Mageia 5 on my Debian x64 jessie host. VirtualBox is now updated to 5.0.8.

Code: Select all

$ cat /etc/issue
Mageia release 5 (Official) for x86_64
Kernel 4.1.8-desktop-1.mga5 on a x86_64 / \l

$ uname -a
Linux tomoyo 4.1.8-desktop-1.mga5 #1 SMP Sun Sep 20 12:39:07 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
The guest starts up in 800x600 and there is no place to change it within the guest -- not even a grayed out control. If I use View --> Virtual Screen 1 --> Resize to (whatever), the resize does work but only until I shut down or reboot the guest. I don't have this happen in CentOS, Debian, or Mint guests.Is there some way I can get the guest to start at a different resolution (like 1280x1024)?

Yes. Install the Guest Additions. Not sure what distro Mageia is based on, or if it will even work, but that's the only way. Give it a shot. Details in the User Manual, in the chapter about Linux GAs.
