Virtualbox breaks Internet adapters

Hi,

If I uninstall VirtualBox-4.3.20-96997-Win.exe - my internet connection doesnt work - this happens on both ethernet and wifi adapters. Similarly, if I try to install VirtualBox-5.0.8-103449-Win.exe over the top of the currently installed Virtualbox - 4.3.20 etc the internet connection doesnt work.

Virtualbox seems to expect VirtualBox-4.3.20-96997-Win.exe to be installed in order for my internet adapters to work...

I get nothing in ipconfig /all, resetting winsock and tcp stack doesnt help.

There must be some kind of driver that virtualbox is uninstalling to stop my internet adapters from working...

The only way to get the internet back is to reinstall specifically version 4.3.20 etc - I have no idea why specifically this version.

This means that if I uninstall virtualbox 4.3.20 etc my internet is broken.

Can anyone explain this phenomenon??? I've never seen this with a piece of software before...

I seem to remember reading here yesterday that if one goes into Device Manager and uninstalls/reinstalls the network card, all the drivers start working again and network access is restored. You could try that. Take backups beforehand - it's just a guess.

Hi scottgus,

Yes, did all that lots of times. Virtualbox just somehow disables all of my internet if 4.3 is not installed. If I try and uninstall it or upgrade I lose all internet. It's the weirdest thing I've ever seen. I lost a whole day due to just figuring this out.
