I have been using Virtualbox for some months now and have been very pleased with the way it works but after upgrading from kernel 2.6.22.14.21 to 2.6.22.15.22 on Ubuntu 8.04, I get the following message when starting the guest operating system:-

VirtualBox kernel driver not installed. The vboxdrv kernel module was either not loaded or /dev/vboxdrv was not created for some reason. Please install the virtualbox-ose-modules package for your kernel and execute '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv start' as root.
VBox status code: -1908 (VERR_VM_DRIVER_NOT_INSTALLED).

Result Code:
0x80004005
Component:
Console
Interface:
IConsole {1dea5c4b-0753-4193-b909-22330f64ec45}

When I go to the Package Manager, I can only find:-

virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.22 6 which is suitable for kernel 2.6.22.14.

Where do I find the modules suitable for 2.6.22.15?

Drop OSE Version from Ubuntu and install the Closed Source Version from the VBOX Homepage.

Thanks for the info, Stefan.

Do I have to uninstall the old version or can I install the new one over the top and will it retain my guest operating system?

Uninstall first. The VMs are in your User Dir and will stay there after delete old package and install new.

After install new version you have to upgrade the guest additions in every guest.

If you do keep using the OSE version, be sure to keep in mind that the modules are not always released at the same time as the kernel itself. Also, why do you use the Gutsy kernel on Hardy? Hardy uses 2.6.24 by default, not 2.6.22. Anyway, it took almost a week for the Ubuntu devs to release the 2.6.24-19 VB kernel modules after the normal kernel was in the repo.
