Hi,
First time Virtualbox user, first time poster.
I'm trying to run the Hortonworks Hadoop sandbox on Windows 7 using VirtualBox but it keeps freezing on me.
The first few times I simply got a small window entitled "VirtualBox - Warning (Not Responding)" but with nothing inside the window. The computer then completely froze and I had to manually shut down.
Now I am first getting and error window stating that it is "unable to allocate and lock memory" and that I should "close applications to free up memory". I really don't think this should be a problem. I have nothing else open and me laptop should meet the specs.
When I close this window it continues for a bit until I get a "Guru Mediation" window which states that a critical error has occurred and the machine execution has stopped. Two of the small "VirtualBox - Warning (Not Responding)" windows also open but the machine freezes and the details cannot be seen. Again, I have to manually shut down.
I am using Virtualbox version 5.0.8 r103449 and running Hortonworks Sandbox with HDP 2.2.4.2.
My laptop is a Lenovo t510 with 4 GB ram and an Intel Core i5 CPU (2.4 GHz), running windows 7.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've been trying to get Hadoop to work on my laptop for almost a week now and nothing is working.

Re: Virtualbox freezing with Hortonworks sandbox
Thanks for the quick reply.
So I have enough RAM but for some reason its not available... I don't suppose you know why or how I could find out, do you?
I'm guessing I have a lot of the memory is being used for cached processes right? Is there some way to turn them all off?

Re: Virtualbox freezing with Hortonworks sandbox
Your guest appears to be set to 4GB or 4096MB, and your host has 3891MB before the host OS takes anything. Modern OSs seem to take a couple GB just sitting there. So you really have only less than 2GB available for your guest, 1797MB at the time the log was taken. You should probably use only 1500MB for a guest on your PC.
