I have VB installed on a windows 7 64 bit host, since the release of the version 5 in July, every 3 days I try to check if the program offers to upgrade from 4.3.32 to 5.x but it always it says ''you are using the latest version'' .... few days a go, without checking for updates it offered me the version 4.3.3 (before was 4.3.30) an I've installed in the hope that after this upgrade VB will offer me the latest version present on the download section inside virtuabox web site, but even trying to check via the application update function that is inside the help menu, nothing happens, I still have the version 4.3.3 and it says that is the latest. Are there reasons like instability or others problems that block the updated/upgrade to the latest or is just a problem of my installation. I'll can download the latest from web site but this behavior let me suspect that the VB developers are delaying the upgrade intentionally. This problem or behavior is happening to other users? If yes, can You explain me the reasons. Thanks in advance, best regards, Paolo

The latest version of VirtualBox is 5.0.8 and its stable. The latest 4.3.* version is 4.3.32, also stable. There have always been update notification issues on and off. I think VB 4.3.* would only announce 4.3.* updates and VB 5.0.* only announces 5.0.* updates, when it works that is.

Nothing to do with stability.

Incredible, so If I don't check regularly the VB web site, the embedded upgrade function will only purpose the 4.x series updates/upgrades. This behavior let me quite dismay. All operating systems and the most important applications always send to users the notice of a new version directly when opening a sw, sometime they offers to join into application/os beta test. VB use a strange method, as well for extension pack that I can't understand they don't pack it into the installer. If it happens for licenses question, they can do like linux mint that in the install page offer a version with codecs included into iso and another without for law restriction in some countries. Should be easiest and quicker. Anyway VB it is a very useful visualization software and it is free, then even if its developers don't want that VB informs users about new versions and don't want make easier the extension pack implementation, I will use it as is and I make my best thanksgivings to all developers for their efforts. Just a little suggest IMHO, about implementing the futures just explained. Why not to send an email every new stable release to all subscribed users maybe with direct links to VB and his specific extension pack, in more for who like to participate at beta development just for testing new version, You can add few lines to the email offering alpha/beta versions to test. Thanks for reading and help me. Best regards, Paolo
