Win10,win2008vm update KB967723

Post by brianmac »

Newbie here!!!!!!
Host, win10, 8gb Ram, 1TB drive, I7 proc
VM, win2008 x64
virtualbox: 5.0.6r103037

I have a Windows10 host, running a Win 2008 x64 server. I am trying to upgrade a production(non VM) server's application. I got the VM up and running fine. I then do windows update to the VM and everything runs fine(so many updates it takes 10 hours to update). I finally get to the part where KB967723 fails. I searched and found other people have had the problem(win2008 & KB967723) and I should download it manual and apply. Did this and it installs without failure. Now when I shut the VM down and then try to bring it back up, it fails.

One or more disk image files are not currently accessible. As a result, you will not be able to operate virtual machines that use these files until they become accessible later.

Press Check to open the Virtual Media Manager window and see which files are inaccessible, or press Ignore to ignore this message.
When I check I have a triangle under a drive:
Type: Differencing
Location: E:\{88cb057d-6a80-4b8c-abb1-0310e662fade}.vhd
Format: VHD
Storage Details: Dynamically allocated differencing storage
Attached to: OSsvrM2M
Encrypted with key: Not Encrypted
UUID: 88cb057d-6a80-4b8c-abb1-0310e662fade
Now I have done this twice and the same thing happens(was hoping it was a fluke, but it was a flounder....)

Controller IDE:
IDE Primary Master: Differencing, inaccessible

when I try to run it:
Failed to open a session for the virtual machine OSsvrM2M.

Parent UUID {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000} of the medium 'E:\{88cb057d-6a80-4b8c-abb1-0310e662fade}.vhd' does not match UUID {6d6553fb-30e7-7148-891c-4aff8cd1a635} of its parent medium stored in the media registry ('C:\Users\PCUser/.VirtualBox\VirtualBox.xml').

Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: MediumWrap
Interface: IMedium {4afe423b-43e0-e9d0-82e8-ceb307940dda}
I do have the VM drives on another partition(as they wouldn't fit in the normal spot).

any help would be greatly appreciated!

The error message is straightforward: one or more disk images previously attached to the VM (and never explicitly detached) are not now accessible. Probably you had them on external media. File|Virtual Media Manager which tell you which files were involved. If it was just ISOs you can detach them from the VM.

OK, again - 'm new at this, so please bare with me....

I had a production win2008 server with 3 partitions(C, D, E). I created virtuals of each drive and then converted them so I could use them in Virtualbox....

On the host, I have the three files on another partition(not the one the C drive is on). Everything was working fine until I manually installed the microsoft update to the VM(not the host, the host has not been touched), then once I shut the VM down, then start it again, I get this error. I'm not using ISO.

So I am a little confused on what you mean(I appreciate the help, though)....
