Unable to import VMware-based ZENworks appliance OVA
Posted: 30. Oct 2015, 09:21
Hello,
I'm trying to import an applinace downloaded from download dot novell dot com slash Download?buildid=hp2QImNH1Lg~
The error message is the following:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Failed to import appliance: D:\novell\zcm\11SP4\ZENworks11SP4_Appliance-x86_64.ova.
Could not open the medium storage unit 'D:\virtualbox\zen114appliance\temp_ZENworks11SP4_Appliance-x86_64-disk1.vmdk.gz'.
VD: error VERR_SHARING_VIOLATION opening image file 'D:\virtualbox\zen114appliance\temp_ZENworks11SP4_Appliance-x86_64-disk1.vmdk.gz' (VERR_SHARING_VIOLATION).
Result Code: VBOX_E_FILE_ERROR (0x80BB0004)
Component: ApplianceWrap
Interface: IAppliance {8398f026-4add-4474-5bc3-2f9f2140b23e}
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Environment:
VirtualBox 4.3.20, 4.3.32 and 5.0.8
Host OS: Win 8.1
The issue may apply to any host platform.
Things I tried for troubleshooting:
- Checking OVA for corruption. MD5 sum matches the one from vendor and the appliance can be imported into VMware without any issue.
- Upgraded VirtualBox to versions above
- Picking the disk file (ZENworks11SP4_Appliance-x86_64-disk1.vmdk.gz), decompressing it (using gunzip from GnuWin32) and adding it as existing disk to a new VM:
a., When trying to add It during VM creation wizard, it leads to "VBOX_E_FILE_ERROR (0x80BB0004)", however the machine gets created with SATA interface while the OVA uses LSILogic SCSI one.
b., So opening the machine created, replacing the mass storage interface to LSILogic and trying to add existing disk to that one. A disk icon appears with exclamation mark on it with the following annotation (also attached as picture):
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Could not open the medium 'D:
\virtualbox\zen114appliance\ZENworks11SP4_Appliance-x86_64-disk1.vmdk'.
VMDK: incorrectly quoted value in descriptor in 'D:
\virtualbox\zen114appliance\ZENworks11SP4_Appliance-x86_64-disk1.vmdk'
(VERR_VD_VMDK_INVALID_HEADER).
VD: error VERR_VD_VMDK_INVALID_HEADER opening image file 'D:
