Just built a VM using the latest CentOS release (centOS-7-x86.64-DVD-1503-01.iso). But I am not getting a desktop version upon reboot. It just comes up to a command line setup upon login. Is this the so-called "headless" OS? Do I have the wrong ISO for desktop OS (i.e., have icons for terminals, etc)? I was expecting GNOME or some GUI to be there upon reboot. Perhaps I overlooked a step in the VirtualBox setup? I'm thinking I need a different ISO, but don't know which one to get. At the CentOS site, there's only: 1) DVD ISO, 2) Everything ISO, and 3) Minimal ISO. There is no indication as to which might have GNOME or some other GUI. The DVD ISO only gave me a command line interface.
Thanks for any pointers!

Re: centos VM - not getting desktop icons
What did CentOS tell you ? After all they support the version you are installing.
Re: centos VM - not getting desktop icons
I will post to the centos 7 general forum and see what I can find out. Greatly appreciate the idea.
Re: centos VM - not getting desktop icons
Found out I needed to go into "Software Selection" during the build process. It is there that one can select a GUI such as Gnome or KDE.
Re: centos VM - not getting desktop icons
One new issue with my CentOS VM - if I should start a new post, pls alert me:
when I try "yum update" I'm seeing: cannot find baseurl for repo: base/7/x86_64. Googled on this and found a suggestion to uncomment the baseurl variable in /etc/yum.repos.d/CentOS-Base.repo. This I did, but now see: could not resolve host mirror(dot)centos(dot)org. Digging further, i.e., pinging a computer on the network here I see the fundamental problem: Network is unreachable. For network config I have "NAT". Not sure how to proceed?

Re: centos VM - not getting desktop icons
Sounds like you have an issue with the network setup on the guest. Assuming that you used the default settings set to NAT it should work as far as VirtualBox is concerned.
