[VB 5.0.8] Windows guests not join/sharing the LAN/homegroup

Hello to all.
First I had a try with the forum search with no success, so here I am

My host OS is Windows 7 Ultimate x64 sp1, as guests OS in my VB I have
Windows 7 Pro x64 sp1
Windows 7 Pro x86 sp1
Windows 8.1 Pro x64
Windows 10 Pro x64
Each VM has the Guest addons installed (it is a must) and VB has the extension pack installed

Now, what's driving me crazy is I found no ways to set each virtual machine to join my homegroup (I have also another desktop PC running Win 7 Pro x64 sp1 and a laptop with Win 7 Ultimate x64 sp1).
For me is quite important because I need to run apps stored in the host shared folders into the guests

I have already tryed to
- set all VM with the same homegroup name, same password
- unchecked "Automatically detect settings" into Internet Options/Connections/LAN settings
- changed any settings in the guest netcard
- Setting IP, subnet, gateway and DNS' manually into the guest netcard properties (connection broken, no network at all)
- Add a second network card in the guest to bridge it, with the result that the VM hangs with the following error:
"Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Windows 7 x64.

Failed to open/create the internal network 'HostInterfaceNetworking-Intel(R) 82579V Gigabit Network Connection' (VERR_INTNET_FLT_IF_NOT_FOUND).

Failed to attach the network LUN (VERR_INTNET_FLT_IF_NOT_FOUND).

Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: ConsoleWrap
Interface: IConsole {872da645-4a9b-1727-bee2-5585105b9eed}"

Right now I'm lost, also googlin didn't help

Any idea mates?

Tks in advance

If you are running on a local LAN, it should all work if you run the vms in bridged mode. The vms will then get their network config from DHCP on the LAN and behave just like the machines on the physical LAN. You do not need host only. Just give the vms one NIC in bridged mode, bridged to the host's physical NIC.

I have never had any problems sharing files in vms with physical machines, using homegroups or NT-style workgroup file sharing.

Hello and thanks for your reply
Yes, it should work, but not here

If I bridge the first (and unique) netcard, I lost the whole network connection, also rebooting nothing change

If I create a second netcard and bridge it with the fisical one, the VM doesn't boot at all: it give me back the error reported in my previous post

Sorry but reduce the VM window and using drag n drop to get files in, is a very boring procedure

Tks in advance

Zac, if Bill's suggestion to use a single NIC set to Bridged mode in each guest did not work, that means there's something wrong on your host, because it does work. I have Bill's suggestion implemented at work and at home and it works perfectly.

Take a look at this: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=48476 "Minimum info needed"
And also try this google search:

Code: Select all

Failed to attach the network LUN (VERR_INTNET_FLT_IF_NOT_FOUND) site:forums.virtualbox.org
Note the "site:forums.virtualbox.org" First link that comes up for me gave some advice about this error.

Tks mate.
Ok, very nice news, I'll have a try within few minutes and I'll let you know.
In case of any failure I'll provide the minimum info as requested, sorry to miss it before

Tks for your patience, have a nice time!

Ok, I confirm that uninstall the host netcard and scanning for new hardware works
After the host netcard is installed back in all my VM I finally can join my homegroup and share with their netcard bridged

Tks a lot to all!!

Have a nice evening!
