Virtualbox keeps aborting

Post by jc1 »

I'm running Windows 7 Enterprise on my host, and a Ubuntu VM on Virtualbox. My VM keeps aborting periodically. This is what I see in my logs:

Please provide (complete) logs as zipped attachments, not as pasted text.

I don't like how much RAM you are giving the VM. The rule of thumb is no more than around 50% of available RAM. You are assigning 88%. I would cut this to 2GB.

OTOH, 12MB seems hardly enough VRAM for an Ubuntu 1362x664x32bpp display. I would increase this to (say) 64MB.
VBox.log wrote: 00:00:02.504698 Host RAM: 8055MB total, 5802MB available

00:00:03.935125 RamSize <integer> = 0x0000000148000000 (5 502 926 848, 5 GB)
...
00:00:03.935651 VRamSize <integer> = 0x0000000000c00000 (12 582 912, 12 MB)
I would also find out what "\Program Files\Tumbleweed\Desktop Validator\tmwdcapiclient.dll" is, and eliminate it until you can find a signed version.

Looks like some AV-software that's causing the issue?

Code: Select all

00:00:35.201091 supR3HardenedErrorV: supR3HardenedMonitor_LdrLoadDll: rejecting 'C:\Program Files\Tumbleweed\Desktop Validator\tmwdcapiclient.dll' (C:\Program Files\Tumbleweed\Desktop Validator\tmwdcapiclient.dll): rcNt=0xc0000190
A quick google search tells me "tmwdcapiclient.dll" is from Tumbleweed Communications, some kind of security tool. Have you tried un-installing that and seeing if VirtualBox runs?

Am I the only one that finds it odd that a company that deals in security does not sign its own dll. and or register it with MS?

I don't have full admin rights on this work computer, so I can't uninstall security-related software.

Then you need to have a discussion with those that can.

Well, I switched to Virtualbox version 4 and haven't had any problems. Seems like there may be some incompatibility with Virtualbox 5.

Well, obviously that is a complete solution, provided you never need to upgrade ever again.
