Might be useful if the OP posted a query on either Microsoft's Technet Forum or Developer's Forum to see if that is a possible explanation.
I downgraded to VirtualBox 5.0.6 and Guest Additions 5.0.6 and that combination works fine. 5.0.8 doesn't work so obviously something has been changed since 5.0.6.
I don't pretend to be any sort of a computer expert, but I would expect the VB developers to be able to fix such a regression.

I agree, this has nothing to do with Education version. This happens on normal Windows 10 Pro license.
It seems to be a packaging issue with one of the device drivers which is installed with Guest Additions 5.0.8.
Applying GA 5.0.8 is crashing Windows, after which the required video driver is corrupted. I have tried several times now, and am looking at the Windows logs.
As far as I could determine, a USB driver is installed and when this gets activated , windows crashed. At that moment the video driver is being unpacked, resulting in an empty driver.
Will see if I can pin it down further.

hmmm, here's a screen shot of my very non-crashed Windows 10 guest with the 5.0.8 GAs installed.

Further analysis reveals that it did not have to do with the crash, this is still not clear what is causing it. I could not reproduce the crash...
But the install of GA 5.0.8 fails. But I have found a bypass.
I did a manual install of the Video device driver to 5.0.8 and then I could do a rerun of the GA 5.0.8 driver install. That upgrade all the other drivers.
I used the device driver from C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox Guest Additions which for some reason already was at 5.0.8....
To upgrade manually go to Device Manager (right click My Computer and select manage, then select Device Manager)
Select Display Adapters, select Virtual Box Graphics Adapter for Windows 8
Click on the Driver tab, this should show version 5.0.6 or older
Click Update Driver
Click Browse my computer for driver software
Select the above mentioned folder and let it install.
After that, you can re-run the mounted CD image.
