How to delete media references without a file?

Post by papaathome »

Hi,

I'm using Virtualbox 5.0.4 r02546 and ran into some dificulties (for me).
My hosting system in Windows 10 and guests of several different OS kinds.

I had an iso file, mounted it and could use it in the guests without any problem.
Then I deleted the iso file, I needed the disk space for other uses.

After restarting Virtualbox I fot the message that some access was not possible.
I had forgotten to remove the iso files from the media manager.

I try to remove the references in the media manager to the iso file but can't! :(
The media manager refueses to remove references to non-existing files.
And when I creata a dummy file (0 bytes) in the correct place, the media manager
can see the file but *still* refuses to remove the reference!

Questions:
- Is this a known problem? (I can't find any references to it).
- How do I remove obsolete references in the media manager?

Kind regards,

Andre Steenveld.

On the contrary, if I go to File|Virtual Media Manager having deleted a registered ISO, then the "Remove" button is enabled for it, and works to solve the problem.

Of course, if you actually still have the media registered and mounted in a virtual CD drive then you may have to take additional steps, such as go to the VM storage settings and eject the media. Normally there would be a "Release" button to handle that case too, but you may be using features that I don't - such as snapshots or saved states - which may affect how easy it is to release media outside of the VM settings.

I was able to delete the reference.
It looks like Virtualbox is *quite* slow in updating or has some dificulties with cashing.

Anyway, it took some time (more than just a few minutes) for the media manager to enable the delete/remove options.
My advise to anyone with the same problem: try again some time later. :D
And my request to the developers team: please have a look into this, low priority. :)

For me, this subject is closed. Thanks for any attention.

Kind regards,

Andre Steenveld.
