[Solved] "Failed to open session" New user

Post by michaeljosh87 »

I am completely new to virtual machines and have not been able to find out what is going on. i have some Ubuntu and Windows 10 ISO's i want to install but all of them get a similar error code when trying to open. the message says:

The virtual machine 'Windows 10 Pro' has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code -1073741424 (0xc0000190). More details may be available in 'C:\Users\Josh\VirtualBox VMs\Windows 10 Pro\Logs\VBoxHardening.log'.

Result Code:
E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component:
MachineWrap
Interface:
IMachine {f30138d4-e5ea-4b3a-8858-a059de4c93fd}

Any help trying to get this to work? like i said i am a completely new user so i still need to get familiar with this stuff. I have attached the text file to the post.

Rather peculiar:
VBox.log wrote: 2020.206c: supR3HardenedScreenImage/LdrLoadDll: rc=Unknown Status -22900 (0xffffa68c) fImage=1 fProtect=0x0 fAccess=0x0 \Device\HarddiskVolume2\Windows\System32\kernel32.dll: Not signed.: \Device\HarddiskVolume2\Windows\System32\kernel32.dll
I've seen before where the certificate is not trusted, but not signed? I'm wondering if your PC has been hacked, or rootkitted. This could be the first reported true positive from the VirtualBox hardening feature...

I see you're using Win7. So, just in case this is old Win7 Windows Update issue, you might want to investigate these :-

KB3004394 fiasco

http://www.infoworld.com/article/285911 ... 04394.html

KB3045999

I checked updates to see if any of those are unstalled. For KB3004394 i do not have that update installed, nor the "silver bullet" patche's KB. And i did have KB3045999 installed, but after uninstalling and restarting no change.

In the case of at least one of these updates, uninstalling the update does not fix the damage it does. Plus the rootkit option remains.

Would trying an older version of virtualbox work?

If you use 4.3.12 then VirtualBox will not do the hardening checks, which will be fine - your only remaining problem will be the potential spyware on your laptop. That and not being able to run Windows 10 etc as that requires recent VirtualBox versions.

I just did a clean install of the OS and everything is working perfect. after you told me about the .12 version, i downloaded it and it worked but i had problems installing extensions and just other various problems. I have been wanting to perform a clean install for a while and honestly this gave me a reason to do so. But as of now, everything is working on the 5.0 version perfectly fine. Thanks for your help
