Using Multiple Monitors with Spaces

Hey All,

I've searched and searched and I can't find a solution to this problem. I have VirtualBox running in FullScreen Mode, and I would like to use my 4 fingers to slide between 2 monitors, similarly to if you have spaces set up on a mac. I can't seem to find a solution, and it seems impossible. Could anyone assist?

Thanks,
Eddie

The VirtualBox VM is not an OS with one compound desktop, it is a (virtual) PC with one or more monitors. You are confusing hardware with software metaphors.

However if the OS running in the VM supports such a feature (like OS X does with multiple monitors on your host) then it should work. But it isn't a VirtualBox matter.

I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve but here is some info for OSX 10.11
OS X El Capitan: Work in multiple spaces
OS X El Capitan: Connect multiple displays to your Mac
You can assign a space to a specific display.

mpack is correct however in that a guest OS doesn't inherit the features of the host OS.

So I guess what I'm confused by is, When you do not fullscreen, with 2 monitors you can have one Monitor in one Space, and a second Monitor in another Space. Is there a way to make a second Monitor a second instance of a desktop, as opposed to an extension of the desktop? It seems to me that when I go fullscreen it doubles up Monitor 1 but since there is no room for Monitor 2 (or screen Space), it just doesn't show up. All I want is to have Monitor 1 go full screen and continue to see Monitor 2 in another Window. Is this an issue of Windows Server, Mac or Virtualbox?

I'm not sure what's confusing. You can have multiple spaces which run on one monitor, or if you have more than one monitor, you can assign a particular space to a particular monitor.

What is confusing is every time I go fullscreen on my Dual-Monitor instance of Virtualbox, Monitor 1 goes full-screen and Monitor 2 becomes non-existent. How can I change that? Where does Monitor 2 go, and why?

With OSX 10.10 and 10.11, when you switch an app to full screen, a new space is created for that app. When you exit full screen, the space is deleted and the app returns to the main desktop. If you want a guest to run in full screen on a second monitor, you would switch the guest to full screen then assign its space to the second monitor. If the guest leaves full screen, then the space assigned to the second monitor no longer exists.

Why? because that's how OSX works.
