Linux VB can't read vms created on Mac

Post by deboev »

A question about switching hosts back and forth on Mac/Linux/Windows.
I have this set up:

- A Mac (Yosemite) where I created VMs (Modern.ie VMs + some Linux distros to test) on an external USB 500GB SSD (exFat).
- A Dualboot PC Windows10/Linux Mint 17.2.
- exFat is enabled on Mint and I can read/write on this SSD, although it says in properties that I don't own the disk.
- The vms are added in VirtualBox on Mint through the add menu item, and they do show up.
- This same setup works perfectly under windows, but I'd rather not use windows other than some gaming :)

When trying to launch a guest, I get this error

Code: Select all

Failed to open a session for the virtual machine IE11 - Win10.

Could not open the medium '/media/michael/Samsung_T1/VirtualBox VMs/Windows/IE11 - Win10/Snapshots/{0604e822-faff-4686-97f0-460c2ac57c6b}.vmdk'.

VD: error VERR_DEV_IO_ERROR opening image file '/media/michael/Samsung_T1/VirtualBox VMs/Windows/IE11 - Win10/Snapshots/{0604e822-faff-4686-97f0-460c2ac57c6b}.vmdk' (VERR_DEV_IO_ERROR).

Result Code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Component: MediumWrap
Interface: IMedium {4afe423b-43e0-e9d0-82e8-ceb307940dda}
I have another VM (IE11 - Win7) which works, but all others fail.

Any Ideas?

Are you using snapshots on the VM that works? Because I have a feeling that this might be the problem.
