Windows XP as guest is crashing

Post by liutauras »

Hello everybody,

For host i use Mandriva linux (various versions 2007-2008.1 and architekture i586, x86_64). I already have 7 installtions of VBOX.
I install WinXPP SP2 as quest with guest additions.
I use vbox 1.5 6 OSE .1.6.0. and 1.6.2 (non OSE).
I use VRDP in all my installations, except the OSE one.

I can say - the only OSE one works stable, no problems at all. All other installations with VRDP and non OSE is crashing.

The bad thing is, that I cannot reproduce the crash. It can crash on file download, on network browsing, on software installation, on anything. VRDP window is just disapearing and no VBOX process left on host.

If I dont connect to my VM with rdesktop, then VM can be alive for weeks, but if I connect to VM it can crash at any time.

On this forum I found a suggestion to uninstall VM VBOX video driver. I did it on two VM. I'm working 30 min already. I will update my post if crash.

I think that my installation is very standart and everybody is using it probably. So why does it crash, can someone give me a suggestion?

by the way, uninstalling VM video driver gives problems with mouse and keyboard. so I would like to fix it if the only solution is uninstalling video driver.

Thanks a lot

There are several fixes we did after 1.6.2 was released. 1.6.4 will contain these fixes and probably improve the stability of your system.

It will be available at http://virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads when it gets released.

I have the same problem. Whenever a complex Window is shown then it crashes.
