Xorg not working on laptop-host

Hello,

I want to run a debian8 vm on my windows8.1 host laptop.

Since my CPU doesn't support VT, I install the 32bit version (even though my os is 64bit).

Installing worked perfectly, but right when the login manager should appear, it crashes with the message from the attachement.

Then I can switch with strg+alt+f1 to a tty and login in textmode. This works, but if I do a `startx`, the same error appears.

I tested the installed .vdi harddrive on my desktop PC and it worked out of the box. So there seems to be a problem specific to the laptop.
I also tried ubuntu15: There ldm appears, but a login results in a black screen and again the ldm screen after a few seconds.

I have attached the VBox.log und Xorg.0.log files to this post.

and I hope somebody can direct my in the right direction.:)

ps: dmesg: sprunge. us/XRET

Code: Select all

00:00:05.367743 supR3HardenedErrorV: supR3HardenedScreenImage/NtCreateSection: rc=VERR_BAD_EXE_FORMAT fImage=1 fProtect=0x5 fAccess=0x2 \Device\HarddiskVolume2\Windows\System32\drivers\atikmdag.sys:
Looks like your host GPU driver is not playing well. I would see if an update is available.

My graphic card driver was indeed a bit old-
I updated it to version 15.200.1062.1004 (driver date:03.08.2015) but the problem persists as before.

A new log file showing the latest error would be useful.

yes, no problem.

I've attached VBox.log and Xorg.0.log to this post.

(note I've also disabled 3d acceleration)

regards

By disabling 3D you are forcing software rendering in the guest and that is really hard on the host processor it also makes it extremely sluggish if and when you get this working especially since you can not use hardware virtualization. Debian 8 is more aggressive in its requirements as well. I would suggest that you try Debian 7 and see if it works on this laptop.
