Mouse sensitivity issues in Windows XP

Post by adamrobertt »

Hey there. I'm running Windows XP on my MacBook Air with El Capitan. Everything works great, except for one thing. I tried installing a video game through Steam (I own the game, Steam works fine, the game launches fine) but the mouse is uncontrollably sensitive. The smallest touch of the mouse pushes the cursor all the way to the other side of the window to the point that I can't get the pointer to click on anything. This only happens in the game window, and at no other time. I've tried messing with the memory/acceleration settings as well as the mouse settings in Windows, but nothing seems to work.

Any ideas about this? Thanks!

The XP control panel has settings for mouse sensitivity. That's the only such tweak I'm aware of.

What is the mouse type? Mouse cursor jumping is a common symptom of using an optical mouse on a surface that is too smooth: the mouse relies on edge and texture in order to measure movement. The natural latency of a VM might exaggerate this (by reducing the sample rate), especially if the guest application exerts a heavy CPU load. I also find PS/2 mice to be better than USB mice on this score, presumably because the PS/2 bus isn't shared with anything else.

You can try disabling mouse integration while running the game.

Hmm. I've tried messing with the sensitivity with no luck. I am however using an optical bluetooth mouse on a surface that is not a mouse pad. I've been using my laptop soft cover as a mousepad actually. I'll also try turning off integration within the game. Thanks for the replies!
