I lost all my programs from Virtualbox OS Ubuntu

Post by Anubix »

Hello,

before last 15 minutes i was finishing work on my VirtualBox Ubuntu 14.04 x64 OS, but I clicked something on my keyboard and virtualbox closed. Then again reloaded and I have uninstalled postgresql, ruby on rails and all components, ssh etc..

It looks like my virtual box OS move back 1 day, but WHAT combination of hotkeys could do this and how can I take it back? I am really ungry because i lost 24 hours of setting up everything.

I don't know what i clicked, something about superhotkey. I didn't work in full screen, so it could be virtualbox combination. I didn't do any backups so i dont know how it can remember my system before 1 day.

Thanks for help,

The only way this could happen is 1) if you did not install the guest and are running it as a live cd, or 2) you were/are using snapshots and you reverted to the previous session. So can you answer those two questions?

1) I thought I installed it. In IDE is nothing, i just use .vdi disc.

2) I don't know what is snapshot so i probably didnt use it :)

It's really weird. For example i have installed sublime text, but it's not licensed. I was doing this yesterday. Another example, i have installed pgadmin3, but postgresql is uninstalled. Probably everything what i did from commandline is uninstalled.

I though of one other thing that would cause this. If you set the guests format to be immutable, but this you would have had to do manually and I doubt that was the case. Certainly not something that you could just click in the guest and loose everything. Without knowing exactly what it was you did we can never know what happened.

You would need to post the guests log file ( as an attachment ) if you want to continue investigating this. Right click on the guest in the Main Manager then click show log. Save and post as an attachment. Compress if it is too large to post.

I know that i used some hotkey, i think i didnt click anywhere. But i didnt confirm anythink too. And it doesnt reset all system. As i wrote, sublime text is installed, pgadmin too. Files on my personal folder are okey. In atachment is log.

Probably tomorrow i will install everything again, but i really want to know what happened, because it can happen next time as well. I have there also logs Vbox.log1, Vbox.log2, Vbox.log3 and Vboxhardening, i atached only Vbox.log . If you want another files, just write it.

The log does not show anything that just jumps out but I did see that the guest additions are far behind the installed version of VirtualBox. This should not cause an issue but it might cause lagging. Other than that as I said before without knowing exactly what transpired it will but all but impossible to tell what actually happened.
