Hello everyone,
I have just changed to a new Laptop which runs Win10 Pro N. I want to continue to use my VMs on the system so I tried to install the latest version of VirtualBox 5. The setup did fail first but without installing (Python Support and) Host Only and Bridged Network I was able to get Virtualbox to setup on my machine.
However, now I am trying to init a fresh VM with an Ubuntu Mate 15.04 guest system. The created VM (2 GB RAM, 8 GB HDD, VDI, NAT) boots up and loads the setup dialog of Ubuntu. I can use keyboard and mouse and can configure the setup. However, as soon as I start the setup process the guest system does not do much visible things for a while. Afterwards my HOST is showing a blue screen of death denoting a MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION. This is reproducible.
To be honest this is also happening with VMWare Workstation / Player which I tried after seeing errors with VBox.
I am pretty lost searching the internet or this forum for a solution as I got no concrete idea what I am searching for. It would be great if someone on the forum could help me out.
Thank you very much in advance.
Best regards

OSX, Linux and Windows Hosts & Guests
There are three groups of people. Those that can count and those that can't.

Re: MCE on Host while installing guest
The host is 64bit with 32 GB of RAM available, the guest is 64bit with 2 GB of RAM assigned.
I have not installed the guest additions obviously.
The Virtualbox version is the latest stable release as of yesterday - 5.0.6.r103037.
I can attach a VBoxSVC.log as this is the only one I found.

Re: MCE on Host while installing guest
The service log is not useful.
Please post a VM log file. With the VM fully shut down, right click and "Show Log" in the GUI, save "VBox.log" (ONLY) to a zip, and attach the zip here.

No need for logs, except to provide the CPU model. Please see https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/14641

Thank you very much for digging this out. Indeed I got am i7 5700HQ which is affected by the problem. So obviously I got other problems besides Virtualbox not running.
