Windows XP - resolution limited to 800x600 (FIXED!)

Post by mikeperu »

(FIXED) I found the solution that worked for me.
1. kill all VM's running.
2. then run this command from cmd prompt. VBoxManage setextradata global GUI/MaxGuestResolution any
3. start VM that was not working.. and try resolution settings, i had so many settings now.. and i could finally select 1024x768

{orignal issue} I have a XP project i am trying to upgrade from XP to windows 7, i need to install this product on windows xp to migrate.
the product requires 1024x768 resolution, but VM is only allowing me 800x600, the slider adjustment will not allow me to increase.
if edit the vbox file and change it to 1024, 768 , it still resolves to 800x600 on boot up..

trying to change Virtual screen to 1024x768 does absolutely nothing.

version 5.06r
vm guest extensions installed.

You have to install the guest additions in XP in safe mode. Guest Additions and the Extension Pack are two different things btw.
OSX, Linux and Windows Hosts & Guests
There are three groups of people. Those that can count and those that can't.
