adapter host-only no internet

Hello, im trying to connect to internet in my virtualbox windows xp 32 bits using adapter host-only but i dont have internet, i have internet with NAT and others but i want to use adapter host-only since i heard it gives a different IP than the host (my pc) so thats why i want to use it, someone can tell me the reason why i dont have internet using the adapter host-only?

Host only does not give you Internet access. It is not supposed to.

If all you are concerned about is having an IP different from the host network, use NAT.

are you sure about that? im using NAT but i have the same IP as the host, and i mean the public IP (the one u get from www.whatismyip.com) is the same as the host one

I could be wrong about this but one's public IP is set by the ISP.

An internet search like that will only ever see your public IP address, no matter whether the machine behind NAT is virtual or physical. NAT was written in the first place to allow machines on a private LAN to use the Internet but not be accessible from the Internet. Google network address translation.

Have a look at what IP your vm has from within the vm OS. It is not your public IP. It will be a private 10.x.x.x address.

Host only also uses a private IP address (192.168.56.x) but by design does not give you Internet access.
