Hi,
I'm asking this in case there's any known issue about this or related to this, or otherwise if I should suspect there's something wrong with these apps crashing.
I just updated from 4.3.6 to 5.0.6 (yes, a big jump, I know). Some OpenGL apps which always worked fine for me on XP, both under virtualbox and under real PCs, now show a crash exception when you close the application. Otherwise it runs fine, the crash is only when closing the application. It's an exception of the type an instruction on address 0xwhatever tried to access 0xwhatever, cannot read memory.
The reason causing this seems to be on the 5.0.6 guest additions, because I tried with another XP vm keeping the 4.3.6 guest additions while running the updated 5.0.6 virtualbox and it worked without crashing. When I updated the guest additions from 4.3.6 to 5.0.6, bang, app crash when closing it.
These same apps don't crash on Windows7 guests with 5.0.6 guest additions. The problem is only on XP guests with 5.0.6 guest additions.
I'm using an OS X host if that matters, but somehow I tend to suspect the host has nothing to do with this.
Is there any known issue related to this, or should I suspect on the correctness of these apps?
Thanks!!

Re: Some OpenGL apps crash on XP guest after updating to 5.0
Update: If I disable 3D acceleration, the crash doesn't happen.

This may be a good candidate for a bug ticket on the bugtracker. Especially if you can go back and re-install the 4.3.6 Guest Additions and see if the crash goes away again. See https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloa ... _4_3_pre24 for the link to the 4.3.6 Virtualbox if you don't have the installer. See Microsoft for help on extracting the Guest Additions ISO from the installer. Or you can get 7-zip (free, http://www.7-zip.org), which will open the Virtualbox installer directly and allow you to drag the Guest Additions ISO out onto the desktop. Try reinstalling from the ISO and see what happens.I tried with another XP vm keeping the 4.3.6 guest additions while running the updated 5.0.6 virtualbox and it worked without crashing. When I updated the guest additions from 4.3.6 to 5.0.6, bang, app crash when closing it.
Post the issue and logs on the bugtracker (https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Bugtracker) and see what they say.
FWIW, I've read that it is not always required to update the Guest Additions, unless a new feature is needed or something breaks. It may be possible for you to keep the 4.3.6 GAs for XP guests even though you're running version 5 Virtualbox.
