Importing *.VHDX files ?

Hi, :D

I would like to ask if there are software tools (freeware or licenseware) to convert *.VHDX files to *.VHD?

What I tried:

- Conversion via Hyper-V Manager.
- Conversion via Powershell.

Both ways failed. :(
My computer/cpu aren't SLAT-ready, so Hyper-V doesn't work.

What I tried too:

- Conversion via Oracle VirtualBox (using a batch command).

This failed because VirtualBox says that the *.VHDX file has wrong headers. :(
But that must be nonsense: I created the *.VHDX via Disk2vhd two times ... first time on an external usb hard disk and another time on a network drive. VirtualBox Manager says both *.VHDX files are corrupt ... ( I don't believe it!).

As an alternative I have Acronis Image Files (*.TIB), created by using the current Acronis Home Edition (2016).

Is there a possibility to get the *.VHDX or the *.TIB converted and imported into Oracle VirtualBox?

Thanks for your help.

Tommy

Have you tried conversion via VBoxManage? I know that it has some rudimentary (and unannounced) support for VHDX in there. I would suggest converting it to VDI of course. So the command would be :-

Code: Select all

<path\>VBoxManage clonehd <filename>.vhdx <filename>.vdi --format VDI
I experimented a few weeks ago with conversion, and it would, but I should emphasise that I'm not certain what exactly I tried. However it's worth a try.

And the age old caveat: making the disk image usable in VirtualBox does not guarantee that the disks contents will be compatible.

Hello,

I told that this failed. VBoxManage says that both ( !!! ) files are korrupt ... I believe it is nonsense ... so I have to try it using another conversion tool.

That doesn't make any sense to me. If you are creating these files using Disk2vhd, why are you ending up with .vhdx format? It was designed to convert to .vhd and later modified to also do it for .vhdx . There should be an option to produce .vhdx. I just had a quick look and there appears to be a check box for vhdx which you need to clear.
