winxp sp 2 vdi does not boot in ubuntu

Post by joeboentoe »

Situation:

I made a new virtual disk virtualbox in windows xp pro SP2. On that virtual disk I installed win xp pro SP2.

When I try to open that disk with virtualbox in Ubuntu then it doesn't boot. I double checked that the virtualbox application has the same settings in windows and ubuntu. It just shows the windows xp loading screen for less then a second and then a blue screen less then a second. Then it reboots and starts all over again.

I can boot this virtual disk with the virtualbox application installed in windows (both vista and xp SP2).

I cannot boot this virtual disk with the virtualbox application installed in Ubuntu.

So I guess there is nothing wrong with the disk . There must be something else

I also posted a thread here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php? ... ost5209853

All I can say is to double check all the settings between the XP and Ubuntu setup. Also, what version was that VDI created with, what version do you use in Windows and what version in Ubuntu? If you created it with 1.5.x and run 1.6.x now, you really need to check the HDD Controller. Default on 1.5.x is PIIX3, default on 1.6.x is PIIX4 and if you didn't set it properly, it will result in BSODs.
