Hi there,
I'm using VirtualBox in Ubuntu 8.04. I was able to install Xp from an iso image without any problem. Now, I do need to install some software into Xp but Windows crashes when I attempt to use the CD/DVD rom. The CD/DVD unit is perfectly working in Ubuntu. I have also enabled Passthrough. I cannot figure out what the problem is.
I will really appreciate any idea.
Thanks a lot,
Riad

It would be great if you found a resolution to this problem. Same thing here.
Running Vista, no problem. Burned a Live CD of ubuntu but PC wouldn't boot from it. A guy suggested I try to install ubuntu from within Vista and boom, up it went. No problem.
So then I installed VB and tried to load XP. No go. Ubuntu would see the drive but not VB. Like you, I downloaded an ISO and boom, once again, loaded up right up and working fine. And like you, I need to install some software but VB will not see the drive. At all.
But ubuntu still reads it fine.
I've spent about two weeks on this to date. No closer now than when I started. I hate to go back to Vista but it's sure looking like that's where I'm headed.
If you find anything that makes it work, let me know.
