Power outage, now can't find my virtual machine

Hi,
I had VirtualBox installed happily on an Ubuntu system. Then, the power went out. Now, when I start VirtualBox, it no machines are listed. It gives me the standard:
"The left part of this window is intended to display a list of all virtual machines on your computer. The list is empty now because you haven't created any virtual machines yet."
However, my .vdi is still there. If I go to File->Virtual Disk Manager, it's listed. The location, Disk Type (Normal) and Storage Type (Virtual Disk Image) all look correct. Attached to and Snapshot are both blank (--).
How can I make things work again? I tried making a copy of the .vdi file and then adding it via the Virtual Disk Manager, but it complains that "a hard disk with UUID <whatever> and the same properties <path to .vdi> is already registered."
Thanks in advance.
