I think at this point filing a ticket on Bugtracker would be in order. If you could post the ticket number here afterwards we can keep track.

According to amd that model does use power save mode. I still say you need to check and make sure that it is not enabled when using VirtualBox.

I don't know there is anyway to disable it on a Mac. Unless just telling the Mac not to sleep will work.

I'm looking online right now and at settings dialogs and I see no way to.

You could try setting Computer Sleep and Display Sleep to Never in System Preferences>Energy Saver and see if that helps.

Or you may have a Prevent Mac from sleeping setting. Varies with model.

One other thing you could try if that doesn't work. Right Click on the VirtualBox application icon>Get Info>check Prevent App Nap.

I entered a ticket - 14682. I don't have time to continue to tweak settings on this at the moment, since I'm at work.

The whole power save gpu thing - there may be something there, but I've been running this setup for a few months with no problems and no settings changes required until the El Capitan upgrade.

Well quite a few things changed with El Capitan. You could always post something in the Apple forums when you have the time.

This is a dumb newbie question. The previous OS X binaries 5.0.4, 5.0.2, 5.0.0 indicate "Intel/Mac" while 5.0.6 indicates "amd64". Can 5.0.6 "amd64" be used on an intel MacBook Pro?

Alex, there is a new test build for OSX. I have no idea if it addresses your problem since there is never any info on the test builds but it might be worth trying…

In general, if a ticket (or possibly a forum post) doesn't explicitly say that a certain build fixes something, it's safe to assume that it doesn't.

I certainly believe that but often there are new test builds that don't seem to be associated with anything.

This wording from the Test Builds page doesn't help…
If you are experiencing some problem with VirtualBox and want to find out whether it has been fixed before you file a bug report…
To me that paragraph is saying install the test build and see if it fixes your problem.
