I've been running El Capitan since Thursday and have noticed that all of my VM's run much slower than they did prior to the upgrade. Opening control panel in my normally quick Windows 7 Ent 64 takes a full 30 seconds. Opening FF in Ubuntu 14.04 is about 10 seconds. They used to run smoothly (one at a time... I use them for software testing).
Anyone else experience slowness?

Are you running VB 5.0.6 and did you update the guest additions for each guest?
FWIW, FF takes about 4 secs from the time I click on the icon until the home page is finished loading on my Ubuntu 14.04.3 guest.
The control panel in my Windows 7 guest takes less than a second to open.

Every time I try to install VirtualBox 5.0.6, El Capitan crashes during the installation with a kernel panic without te possibility to recover. Afterwards, I need to boot in Safe Mode and uninstall VirtualBox in order to get My Mac up and running again. Attached you find the Panic Log.
Any idea how to solve this?

Yes. Uninstall Elmedia Player. This file "com.eltima.kext" caused numerous problems for people trying to run OSX 10.11 betas and I assume the OSX 10.11 release.

Like Andre.Scott, I've seen really significant slowness since El Capitan last week. Mouse clicks and the keyboard are several seconds of lag between actual click or keying and seeing it on the screen.
I'm running a Windows 10 VM, and I did update to VirtualBox 5.0.6 today and ran the new guest additions as well - no improvement.
My host machine if it matters is a Retina 5k iMac, 4Ghz i7, 32GB of Ram - I've been running this setup for the last few months and my VM has been zero lag and no performance issues whatsoever until the El Capitan update.

I have OSX 10.11 installed on three different Macs along with VB 5.0.6 and have seen no performance difference. If anything, it might even be faster. I only have a Windows 10 guest on one of them but it's anything but slow. Can you attach the VBox.log file for your guest on a post? Compressed if it's too large.

There's a vbox.log.1, .2 and .3 as well, none show modified since last reboot before noon today though, not sure if those are of any value.

One thing that would speed things up is to assign two cores to the guest instead of one. Also, you have 10GB assigned to the guest and unless you need that much RAM for Windows 10, that seems excessive. I have 32GB on my iMac with the Windows 10 guest and I only have 2GB of RAM assigned to it and it runs fine. I assume 4GB would be more than enough. You don't have the extension pack installed which would mean no USB support. There seems to be a number of OpenGL warnings but I'm not sure why. Also, this is not a complete log. You need to shutdown the guest first, then send the VBox.log. The logs with the numbers are just previous logs.

I do need the memory - this is a development machine running many instances of visual studio, SQL tools, IIS and other things.
i just shut down to assign an extra core, while it's down, i got the full log for you.

did you enable 2D and 3D in the display settings?
00:00:11.787305 VMMDev: Guest Log: VBoxMP::DriverEntry: 3D is NOT supported by the host, falling back to display-only mode..
Someone else has to look at your log. There are lines in it I don't understand.

FWIW, I just checked my 27" non-5k iMac with the Windows 10 guest and I am definitely not getting a 3D is not supported message. There may be an issue with the graphics card. Which graphics card is in your 5k?

Code: Select all
00:00:11.787266 VMMDev: Guest Log: VBoxMP::VBoxMpCrCtlConInit: VBoxMpCrCtlConConnectHgcm failed with rc(0), 3D not supported!
00:00:11.787305 VMMDev: Guest Log: VBoxMP::DriverEntry: 3D is NOT supported by the host, falling back to display-only mode..
For some reason the host is not playing well with the VirtualBox drivers. Do you know if you have a power saving video like most laptops and some console units do these days? If not then you probably need to post a ticket at
bugtracker and see what the DEVs have to say. If it does then make sure that VirtualBox is allowed to use the full power mode.

Thanks for checking Perry. I looked up the available graphics cards for the machineā¦
AMD Radeon R9 M290 graphics processor with 2GB of GDDR5 memory
or
AMD Radeon R9 M290X graphics processor with 2GB of GDDR5 memory
Configurable to AMD Radeon R9 M295X with 4GB of GDDR5 memory.
I do know there was a graphics update for the 5K Retina iMac but I don't know of course if the user installed it or if it has anything to do with the problem.

There is just too much unknown to be able to say for sure. I do know that if 3D was not enabled in the guest receipt you would not see a test for it in the logs.

AMD Radeon R9 M290X graphics processor with 2GB of GDDR5 memory << this is what I have.
3d is definitely enabled.
So after I brought it back up with 2 cores, I can't get the resolution to go above 1600x1200 on the Windows VM. I changed no other settings. Before it would do 2560x1440 no problem, including yesterday - using 5.0.6 and the 5.0.6 guest additions.. There's definitely something going on with graphics drivers, but I certainly don't know what.
