AMD TK-53 CPU, Ubuntu Hardy 32bit, can't enable AMD-V...

...hardware virtualization in the VirtualBox setup screens.

I've checked "Enable "VT-x/AMD-V" to "on", yet at the summary screen it shows disabled.

I've tried with and without Compiz. This system only has a gig RAM and I'm feeding an XP guest 384megs...I hope that's not it?

This is a Dell 1501. CPU is confirmed in the BIOS settings as a TK-53, which per Wikipedia has listed as having AMD-V.

Everything else works great.

Any ideas?

AMD/VT is a great hit, so its nice to have, but not a must.

Fore some Computers this is disabled by Default in the BIOS. For some other Computers this works only after a BIOS Update.

You can check this yourself. But dont expect much more performance.

Another thing: What says "egrep '^flags.*(vmx|svm)' /proc/cpuinfo"?

If nothing, AMD/VT isnt supported by your cpu.

Isn't "vme" the virtual extensions?

I may look for a BIOS update...

Looks good. If there are response lines, cpu supports Pacifica / VT.

M'kay...so...why won't VirtualBox accept the feature?

BIOS update maybe?

May be. At work we had a hp workstation. after bios upgrade VT worked.
