osx host, 2 OEL 6.4 Guests - ssh works - other ports refused

Hello:

Mac osx host
OEL 6.4 Guests

NAT adapter 1 for Internet for guests = success
Host only adapter 2 for vm network
Host Only IP 192.168.56.1
NetMask 255.255.255.0
DHCP disabled

Guests
eth0 - auto created for NAT
Static ip addresses configured for each guest 192.168.56.101 and 192.168.56.102 on eth1
Gateway on guest tried both 192.168.56.1 and 0.0.0.0 and it makes no difference
DNS on Guests' eth1 set to 192.168.56.1
iptables -F for both guests

My goal is to scale out an OBIEE installation which requires guest to guest communication via port 7001.

ssh is successful between guest 2 and guest 1.

(from guest2) telnet guest1 7001 = connection refused

Any assistance or new ideas are appreciated.

When I use CentOS, the default install starts and enables firewalld, and SELinux. Have you tried disabling these two first, for testing purposes, before moving on?

In CentOS:
systemctl stop firewalld
systemctl disable firewalld

nano /etc/selinux/config
SELINUX=disabled

then reboot

I don't know the commands for OEL, but I bet they have default security protocols with new installs as well.
