Virtualbox 5 no network on host

Hello,
I have installed VB5 and as soon as the application is available after installation the host win7 can't connect anymore with the network.
It simply says that is trying to connect but it can't.

As soon as uninstall VB5 everything works as before.

I'm connected via Ethernet cable and the interfaces are Intel I217-V and Killer e-2200 Gigabit.

Can anyone point me on the right direction?

Thanks

That sounds like a conflict between the NIC device driver(s) in the host and a VirtualBox driver.

Try installing VirtualBox again but use the options in the installer to not install bridged networking or host only networking.

You might also want to take a look at this thread: No bridged mode with 5.0.4 on Windows 7, which basically talks about installing the old type NDIS5 driver instead of the newer NDIS6.

First of all thanks for the replies.

As first attempt i tried uninstalling 5.0.4 and installing 5.0.2 instead as suggested but nothing changed, no connection on the host.
I have then tried not installing the Host-Only driver during the installation and nothing changed.
I have then tried not installing the Bridget Networking driver and nothing changed.

Finally i tried not installing both drivers during the installation and it worked. I got Virtualbox installed and host connection working.

Obviously without connectivity Virtualbox is not that useful.

Has anyone an idea of what i can do to have VB working with connectivity?

Thanks,

Filo

Depends on what you want to do. The default network setting of NAT will allow the vm to access the Internet. Some users (possibly most users) never use anything else.

Having unusual NICs in the host is an additional problem in your case. Most of the common ones get a good workout and any problems are fixed by the manufacturer releasing an updated driver. For bridged networking to function, the host device driver and the Virtualbox bridge driver have to work together to let the vm share the NIC with the host. If they don't, either the guest or the host have problems (as you discovered).

Did you try my suggestion to read the thread that I pointed you to and install the NDIS 5 drivers?
