One day old Linux user

I trying to test ubunto and ran into a snag trying to install an application.
The installation process had to be done thru the console manually and thats where I got lost.

Is there any utility for linux that would automate this process ?.
As a new user I need all the help

Its better to ask in a Ubuntu Forum.

If you are testing Ubuntu on a Sum Microstation, you dont ask such questions in a sun forum
