Can't capture audio from stereo mixer device

I have a guest operating system - WinXP hosted on Ubuntu 8.04. Everything's working fine but I cannot capture audio from stereo mixer device. Irrespective of whether I select line-in, stero-mixer or microphone , the audio input invariably comes from the mic. Is there any setting by which I can capture from stereo-mixer ? What I want to do is play music using stereo-mix in skype|yahoo.
Any solution or workaround to the problem shall be appreciated ? Thanks.
