Hi Guys,
Im currently running Virtualbox 1.6.2 (But I had the exact same problem with 1.5.6) on Ubuntu Hardy. I've followed all the guides to get usb working (Including both parts of this one) and while as far as I can tell I've done nothing wrong I can't seem to be able to activate them within Windows.
In the settings I checked USB devices and that was no problem. When I run the operating system I can see a list of all my usb devices plugged in when I right click on the usb icon or select USB from the Devices menu, but they are all greyed out and won't let me select them. If I leave the mouse over them it reads "State: Unavailable".
Any ideas as to what's wrong? As I said I had the same trouble with 1.5.6.
Cheers in advance.

Hi Portach,
The only way I could get USB devices, especially USB memory sticks, to operate correctly within my WinXP + SP2/SP3 Virtual Machine was to enable the USB controller (top check box) but NOT enable the USB 2.0 Controller (bottom box unchecked).
If I enabled the USB 2.0 Controller, Windows would "see" my devices but I had difficulty getting them to work. As soon as I switched off USB 2.0, everything worked fine in the VM, including my USB memory sticks.
I hope this works for you.
Best wishes,
Ted
