IP address conflict

Post by Arnab »

Hello,

I am using a Windows XP guest inside a Windows 8.1 host. The guest is throwing IP address conflict error and I am not able to connect to network from the guest. Host is able to connect flawlessly though.
Below are the minimum information needed for assistance:

- Virtualbox 5.0.2 r102096, guest additions is installed.
- Host: Windows 8.1 64 bit, RAM 8 GB, HDD 1 TB
Guest: Windows XP 32 bit, RAM 1.68 GB, HDD 10 GB
- VBoxStartup.log file size is more than 128 KiB, couldn't attach.

A bit more info on the networking setup would help.

1. Are you using bridged networking?
2. What IP address is the vm receiving?
3. Any idea what other device on the network might have the same IP as the guest?

Thanks for you response, BillG. I saw in one post that an older version of VB solved the issue. I am currently trying that.
However, for you information,

1. I tried using every adapter possible (Bridged, NAT... etc.), nothing worked.
2. I didn't note down the IP address of the vm, but it was different from the host.
3. No idea, I can figure our if you tell me how to.
