Accessing Windows Guest Dropbox Folder Responsively in Linux

OK, I have Dropbox installed on my Windows 7 guest 64 bit. Im running a host Linux Mint 17.1 64 bit. VB 4.3.20.

My goal is to have Dropbox running on the Windows 7 machine with its shared folder responsively synced/accessed in Linux Mint. I need to run this way because I need the use of a Windows only plugin for Dropbox even though Dropbox supports Linux.

Dropbox does not install its shared folder easily to a networked drive, there seem to be some workarounds suggested but I have been unable to get to work with latest version of Dropbox. The workaroud is shown here for example: https://wordpress.training-nyc.com/wind ... -tutorial/ However when that created folder is blank Dropbox seems to recognizes it is not the shared folder, and if there are contents in it, it also halts using that location. I assume the latest Dropbox version has negated the workaround.

I then tried to share the Dropbox shared folder with the Windows Homegroup (read/write) but the access on Linux Mint of this folder seems slow and prone to not being in sync.

Is there a better way someone could suggest to share a folder on the WIndows guest to Linux Mint? The settings in VB seem to only apply going the other way but then those folders appear as network location in Windows and therefore does not allow me to designate those folders as Dropbox shared folders.

VirtualBox Shared folders are a bad idea for what you are trying to do. They are very basic implementation of a network share where performance is not the point of it, so they shouldn't be used with Dropbox & others.
Create a real network share for this purpose.
