Virtual Box won't update & leads to sys restore

Hello,

To explain all of what has happened would be tedious. I'll do so if necessary, but here's the circumstance:

I can't uninstall OR update VitrualBox. Whenever I try I end up having to restore my entire system because of a peculiarity of the VirtualBox update program.

When VirtualBox updates it temporarily suspends the ability of the computer to communicate with the Internet. VirtualBox actually warns that it is going to do this. The problem occurs because during the update process VirtualBox aborts. The result is that my computer loses connection with the net. The connection can't be restored using normal Windows network connection tools. What I need to know is this:

How do I restore the peculiar network disconnection created by VirtualBox update? Until I know how to do that I can't even TRY to fix the problem, because three times -- so far -- the only way I could re-establish connection was to run a system restore. That takes hours and changes nothing, since VirtualBox still won't update.

Anyone knowledgeable enough to help?

Kind regards,

Cam

You don't mention which version of VirtualBox or the Windows version you are using. That would be the very basic info we need to help further.
As a workaround, during installation, you can choose not to install the Bridged driver, which is the one reseting your connections.

Thanks for the reply. I'm using windows 8. The VirtualBox version is 4, not sure what decimal point. You see, I dare not run it until I know how to stop VirtualBox from screwing up my Internet connection, so I can't check the version when it is running.

Please, tell me, how do I choose not to install the Bridged driver. I don't recall being given an option concerning that.

Sorry for the late reply.
During installation, you can choose fast or custom installation. Choose custom and you'll have the list of features to be installed. Removed bridged & host-only mode then continue with the installation.

Thanks for this data. I don't want to risk my system until I don't need my computer for work. My next available opportunity -- believe it or not -- is at Christmas. I'll let you know how it works. Again, thanks for the data.
