[solved] How allow guest OS to access the Internet
Oracle VM version 4.3.30 r101610 Host : Windows 7 64 bits Guest: Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS
What do I need to do to allow the guest OS to access the Internet through my host machine? I have tried the following without success:
Attached to: Bridged Adapter
Name: Cisco AnyConnect bla bla bla
Cable Connected (checked)
PS: I will attach a screen shot tomorrow because I am getting the error below:
"You must be a member for 1 days and have 1 posts before you can post urls."
Thank you
Max

NAT is simplest.
We prefer that images be attached directly, not linked, so your noobee restrictions shouldn't matter.

I did pick NAT (not NAT Network) and I saw a popup such as "Wired Connected" but Firefox wont load any web sites.
Probably DNS issue. I will have to read the Oracle VM manual which I just downloaded.

Are you using some kind of proxy/VPN software? If so, disconnect it before trying.Cisco AnyConnect..

yes that was my VPN connection and I also tried when not using the VPN and it didn't work either.
I just installed a new guest (Windows 7) and NAT worked fine. So it looks like the problem is with the Ubuntu guest.
I am new to Ubuntu so now I am researching why Windows works and Ubuntu doesn't. Thanks.
If you have any clue please shed some light - thanks!

Hard to say - you don't mention how you reached the conclusion that internet was not available in the guest.
You should also run basic network diagnostics - ping your local gateway, ping your DNS server, ping the IP of a website, then try to ping its DNS name, see where it fails...

I think this is how he reached the conclusion…noteirak wrote:Hard to say - you don't mention how you reached the conclusion that internet was not available in the guest.
FWIW, a normal install of a Ubuntu guest should certainly be connected if NAT is chosen. Perhaps a firewall is blocking the Ubuntu guest?Maximus1970 wrote:I did pick NAT (not NAT Network) and I saw a popup such as "Wired Connected" but Firefox wont load any web sites.

I am still hoping for a more scientific approach, even if not mentioned.

Well I restarted the guest OS and now it is working...go figured!
Thanks for the NAT suggestion. I am new here. Do I need to do anything like closing "this ticket"?
Thank you!

I'll take care of it for you this time. For future reference just edit the original post and add solved to the front of the line.
