Users manual states what you need http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch04.h ... mount_auto

Hint: vboxsf group

What other things?

Don't forget after you add or change permissions you need to at the very least log out and back in, and sometimes a reboot is needed.

this one :
/sbin/mount.vboxsf : mounting failed with the error : no such file or directory

this one:
Could not mount the media/drive '/Applications/VirtualBox.app/Contents/MacOS/VBoxGuestAdditions.iso' (VERR_PDM_MEDIA_LOCKED).

Confused. It appears that the guest additions are actually mounted. I see what would be the files. Maybe you can tell me what it is you are doing. Normally you would open a terminal and type sudo then drag the VBoxLinuxAdditions.run into the terminal. Then press enter.

Hi
I have reinstalled linux mint
when i am about to install the guest additions it says in terminal remove all previous guest additions.
i use :
sudo apt-get purge virtualbox*

Then I install guest additions.

i make myself a memeber of the vboxsf group

then I run in terminal the VboxLinuxAdditions.run

then i create a folder on my guest desktop called shared

then using the GUI I connect the shared folder form my host[mac] {called share2]

then in terminal
sudo mount -t vboxsf share2(the folder from the host) ~/shared/

then I do not know what to do:-)

then I get /sbin/mount.vboxsf error no such file or device.

any advice?

cheers

If you already installed the guest additions you don't need to do it twice.

What happens when you run the terminal VBoxLinuxAdditions.run in the terminal?
Do you see any errors?
Did you reboot after installing the additions?

Hi Perryg

Since you corrected only one of the steps I provided you, I felt more confident.
I reinstalled the guest - probably the 20th time now, but had a good look.

My problem was the path for the mounting.
My shared folded on the guest was on my Desktop and when I finally realize i need to give the path to the Desktop in my user - then it WORKED!!!

So thanks for your efort and patience.

Cheers
