that's upsetting as i can't hide the update (set by gpo, on the domain) will have to go back to win 7 for now.

I should have looked at your log. I assumed someone had since it was downloaded. First your guest has the wrong guest additions installed. Plus I believe those are from the Ubuntu repo. Which should be removed and the ones that come with VB should be installed.

You need to update them. The other thing is you have no extension pack installed so if you have any USB settings they won't work.
