Windows 10 update KB3081455

Post by kendypls »

Hi all, :D

first time poster here!

Just wanted to let everyone know that I did a windows update last night (KB3081455), and this morning I can't load up my ubuntu VM (attached is an image of the error), I am assuming it's because of the update and I'm currently in the process of uninstalling it.

Will post the results afterwards!

Thanks,
Kendal

Moved to "Windows Hosts".

Did you reboot your PC as the message suggests? That means a full power down and startup, not a suspend.

Also, please post a VM log file. With the VM fully shut down, right click it in GUI. Select "Show Log" and save "VBox.log" (ONLY) to a zip file. Attach the zip here.

FWIW, I just installed the Cumulative Update (KB3081455) on my Windows 10 box and it had no affect on VB 5.0.4. All the guests run fine. I suspect it's partly Windows 10's fault because of the way updates are handled. In the update screen if it finds updates, once they are installed the Checking for Updates message reappears. Once it's done the scheduled restart screen appears if needed. I think some people aren't waiting waiting for the Restart screen to appear and just close the window.

Just my thought.

Post the vbox.log for your guest as mpack suggested above.

Welcome. Just know it doesn't work for everyone. Microsoft seems to have issues with updates. I didn't have a problem but others did.

Hi,

Just a quick update, I ran the file system check and it found no problems, I then rebooted and tried again, still the same message on VB.

Thanks,
Kendal

About all you can do then is remove the update, hide it and hope Microsoft comes up with a fix.

just to confirm, my pc has no issues with the update, it doesn't fail or do anything out of the ordinary, all I know is when it's there my vm doesn't work, when I remove it it does :o
