Virtual Box disables my dvd rw drive?

When I use virtual box to test a boot cd out on my machine, it will work fine when used as that, but when I shut virtualbox down, it will not release my cdrom functionality back to me?

I cannot open or close it via the button on the front, or via manage. The light also stops illuminating, even though the disc is still spinning over. It also will not open or close on its own, I have to manually open it with a paperclip and manual force it to close

I have an HP dc7600c, XP sp2 and a lightscribe dvdrw, if any of that matters, is this a common issue?

The only way I've found to get functionality back is to reboot

I can't imagine I'm the only one who has ever encountered this issue?

I had similar problems whith VB 1.6 on Windows Vista on my Acer Aspire 5920g notebook, and each time i have to restart windows two times before i can use the dvd reader, after having used virtual box.

Hey, thanks for the reply!

Have you found a fix yet? I have XP, so I'm guessing it's a bug in the program and not OS or hardware specific?

I have a similar problem running XP guest in a Linux host. Often the CD drive will lock up when I am running the guest, especially after I have used the CD. I have to quit VB to open the tray.

I haven't found a solution yet.

CD/DVD drive gets stuck closed

I am also experiencing the issue of my CD/DVD drive getting stuck closed. For my system, Ubuntu Hardy with an XP Pro guest (that started life as a VMWare image), when the CD/DVD drive is empty I can not get it to open until I shut the guest OS down. This only happens when the drive is empty and after using it at least once. When there is a disc in the drive, I do not have this problem. Strange bug indeed.

Thanks in advance for any replies.
