BSOD apparently caused by Virtualbox 5

Last week I upgraded from Windows 8. to Windows 10, and found I needed to try that at-the-time-bets-mode virtualbox series 5. When I tried to install gentoo linux using easygentoo it repeatedly gave me BSODs in Windows 10 (typically after an hour or so of build attempt). So I would back to Windows 8.1 and Virtualbox 4.3 and I tried my gentoo work using virtualbox 4.3 on a mac host - where things behaved better.
Today I found Virtualbox 5.0.4 so I installed that (on Windows 8.1) and I tried the Gentoo install again. This used easygentoo and a current gentoo livecd to boot from, on a 4cpu VM with 6G memory and to my mind nothing very special anywhere. After a while my Windows crashed with a BSOD again (this one said CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT) leaving me with a strong suspicion that this is a virtualbox 5-series issue.
