VM WN 8.1, can mount USB flash drive but not USB3.0 HDD

Hi guys
I am pretty new here and just got a VM with Windows 8.1 installed. I am trying to mount my USB3.0 Hard Drive (Samsung M3 Portable 500GB). However I keep on getting the error, Unknown USB Device (Invalid Device Descriptor). I have tried a lot of solutions on the forum and have gotten a USB flash drive to mount. I downloaded the VirtualBox Extension pack and put the USB device on filter. However this solution does not work on my Hard Drive.
