Re: Unable to connect linux 7 guest from windows 7 host
Host only means that only the host can connect to the VM. The VM is not on any publicly accessible network.
If you want the VM to participate on a LAN, it needs to be a member of that LAN, via bridged networking.

Re: Unable to connect linux 7 guest from windows 7 host
HI Mpack,
Thanks for your reply
a)I want to access my virtual machine both on LAN/Wireless and without any network as well, for that I have created 2 adapters 1 host only and 1 bridged adapter .
b) However IF i disconnect my LAN (no network access) and try pinging with only host only adapter settings (disable bridged adapter) then also ping fails from my local machine
c) if i do ipconfig on my local machine i see the address and configure the same ip address as mentioned below in the ifcfg-enp0s3 file i see that the ping results succeed.
But i see success results even when my virtual box is in shutdown state. Does that mean the below IP address 192.168.188.1 is not my Virtual machines address.
Ethernet adapter VirtualBox Host-Only Network #2:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::86b:cd50:a721:367d%22
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.188.1
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :
Tunnel adapter isatap.{0F5AC351-924C-492B-89E4-715422260EE7}:

Report the results of the following from the hosts command window:
Note: Windows users must be in the directory that has VBoxManage.exe for the command to work.
Code: Select all

Re: Unable to connect linux 7 guest from windows 7 host
So the question is why create a second host-only adapter?
Re: Unable to connect linux 7 guest from windows 7 host
I understand that 2 host only adapters dont make sense over here but shouldnt one of the host only adapter still contribute in making connections from my host to the virtual box ?
why the ping request to 192.168.188.100 fails from my location when i had already defined it under ifcfg-enp0s3 with bootproto=static
kind regards

Re: Unable to connect linux 7 guest from windows 7 host
Maybe if it is being used. It looks like you have two configured but are using the wrong one from you screen shot.
The address you are using is for #2 but you have #1 configured for the guest.

Hi PerryG,All,
I have removed the extraconfiguraton /adapter present on my machine..

Name: VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet Adapter
GUID: 0f5ac351-924c-492b-89e4-715422260ee7

IPV6NetworkMaskPrefixLength: 64
HardwareAddress: 0a:00:27:00:00:00
MediumType: Ethernet
Status: Up
VBoxNetworkName: HostInterfaceNetworking-VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet Adapter
But still whenever i trying to connect to 192.168.56.101 through putty , i get an error message saying network connection timed out. I have also attached screen shots of configurations in my machine.

Re: Unable to connect linux 7 guest from windows 7 host
What is the guest exactly? Are you certain that this is not a guest issue? Firewall, Etc..
Re: Unable to connect linux 7 guest from windows 7 host
My Guest is Oracle Linux 7.0
To take care of any issues due to firewall i had also disabled the firewall itself but still its of no help.
My host is Windows 7 Service pack1 , please find screen shots of the same.

Re: Unable to connect linux 7 guest from windows 7 host
Looking at your screen shot again I see that the cable connected is unchecked. That means no connection. Put a check mark in it and try again.
